Extension privacy

Updated 15 October 2026. This policy describes the Togevio Companion 0.8.3 tester extension.

Information it uses

When you choose Enjoy together, the extension reads the active tab’s title and URL. It removes supported tracking parameters and opens that title in Togevio. This action does not automatically send an invitation.

Optional playback connection reads the selected player’s play/pause state and position. It stores the room identifier and selected title reference in browser session storage and routes playback changes through the Togevio tab you explicitly connected. No movie or audio stream is captured or retransmitted.

Storage and recipients

Your chosen interface language is stored in local extension storage. Room/player bindings are held in session storage and cleared when the connected Togevio tab closes. Shared URLs and playback state pass to the Togevio website when you use these features. The website’s account, invitation and room handling is separate from this extension.

Floating friends panel

When you explicitly connect a supported OTT player, an extension-origin panel opens on that page. The trusted Togevio room tab relays authorised chat, reactions and call signalling. Your member token stays in that tab and is not sent to the provider page or panel. Camera and microphone access require your explicit device choice and browser permission. Friend audio/video uses the existing peer-to-peer call; the OTT film is never captured or rebroadcast. Close the panel to end its call and return controls to the room. Private and group calls are supported in the implementation. Group speaker permissions remain controlled by the host; the approved panel receives a scoped group-call media token. The panel includes Return to Togevio and a keep-room-open reminder. Provider and group compatibility still need live testing.

Optional VLC companion

If you install and use the desktop VLC companion, the extension exchanges the matching local-file reference, playback position and playing state with that local application. No local media file is uploaded by the extension.

Permissions

activeTab reads the tab you choose in the popup. storage keeps language preferences and temporary bindings. Scoped content scripts communicate with Togevio and supported streaming players. nativeMessaging connects the optional local VLC companion. scripting mounts the panel in an explicitly connected player tab if its page script has not loaded. Host permissions are limited to the streaming domains listed on the setup page; updates adding services may ask you to approve the new site access. No all-websites permission is requested.

Your control

The extension does not read passwords, cookies or subscription credentials; sell user data; serve advertising; or execute downloaded code. Disconnect the room to remove its binding. Remove the extension to clear its extension storage. You can use Togevio without installing the extension.
